Morris Pet Care Consulting Team BiosWalter H. Morris

Walter is the son of Walter Morris Sr., a nationally-known professional dog handler and kennel manager who showed the first miniature poodle to win “Best in Show” at Westminster Kennel Club Show in 1943.

Walter earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics from Villanova University and has held management positions in the fields of finance and customer service for 14 years at two major corporations.

Purchasing his father’s small boarding and grooming business in 1978, Walter managed and developed the business and was the company’s only groomer. Realizing the importance of networking with peers, he became a charter member of the American Boarding Kennel Association (“ABKA”), now Pet Care Services Association (“PCSA”).

In 1986, Walter designed and built in Morristown, NJ, one of the first totally indoor pet care facilities on the East Coast: Morris Animal Inn. He spent many years prior to 1986 obtaining all the necessary permits to build.

In 1987, he founded the first invisible fencing dog containment company dealership in northern New Jersey. The business eventually expanded to four locations throughout the state.

In 1991, Walter worked as Vice President of Operations with the founder and President of the corporation that today is Best Friends Pet Resorts and Spas. Additionally, he assisted in validation of business plans, acquisitions, operations, and investment capital acquisition. This was the first successful attempt to consolidate pet care facilities throughout the country.

In 2004, he retained the services of Laura Laaman of Laura Laaman Associates to develop a new and improved business model unique to the Pet Care Industry. The result was the doubling of revenue per pet per night within two years.

In 2007, Walter completed a major redesign and expansion of the original Morris Animal Inn into a 25,000 square foot, world-class facility able to house up to 320 pets.

In 2008, Walter and his daughter, Joanne, acquired Morris K-9 Campus, a dog training and day care center housed in a 13,000 sq. ft. indoor facility in Randolph, NJ.

In 2009, he founded Morris Pet Care Consulting, LLC with Joanne. Walter has worked with and counseled hundreds of pet facilities owners, shelter operators, city and municipal operations administrators and veterinarians throughout the United States and internationally.

He has completed all educational levels offered by Pet Care Services Association attaining the designation of CKO, certified kennel operator. Walter has worked on the ethics committee and as an Accredited Facility evaluator.

He has given seminars on the pet care business and its facilities’ design and operations for Pet Care Services Association both locally and nationally as well as at the Grooming and Boarding Expo.

Walter has received numerous awards and recognition for contribution to the pet care industry and has served on several shelter building committees.

He has also spent thousands of hours dealing with local, county and state-level departments, boards and agencies acquiring permits and approvals for pet care facility approval. This experience includes exposure to and practical knowledge of zoning, land use, traffic, and environmental issues, including wetland and endangered species. Walter knows the experts required and best to use when going for special use permit or variances. These experts include land use lawyers, professional planners, traffic engineers, acoustical engineers, ecological engineers, biologists, architects, civil engineers, and mechanical engineers.
